Working Groups

The main activity of the working group is to organize bi-annual meetings for an updated discussion on the related topic. Other activities, such as collaboration agreement among members, discussion lists, website development or collaboration with other working groups are encouraged whenever convenient. The WG convenor is responsible for coordinating all of the working group activities, and he/she can share these responsabilities with co-convenors or organizers of subgroups officially appointed by the WG convenor to the NTRS/IOBC President.
Working groups can me proposed anytime for a group of IOBC members to the NTRS/IOBC President for consideration and discussion with the NTRS committee. The proposal should describe the goals and motivation of the working group as well as provide a list of the initial members and the appointed convenor and co-convenors.

WG Meetings

The main attributions of the WG convenor are a) to initiate the activities of the working group by organizing meetings, b) to invite members to join the WG, and c) to seek for funds to support the WG activities. WG meetings should be organized to attend the specific needs of each particular WG, varying in number of participants and meeting duration.
The NTRS/IOBC understands that newly-formed working groups may take the advantage of the possibility to organize round tables and mini-symposia within national and international meetings to strength and support the growth of the WG, even if that might reach a small audience and have a short time for discussion. All of the meetings should have a clear goal, and must be specifically related to the WG activities.
The participation is warranted to members and non-members of the NTRS/IOBC, but filliation to the NTRS is required for regular participation on the working group activities. All convenors and co-convenors must estimulate the filliation to the NTRS/IOBC during the WG meetings by making a brief presentation of the NTRS at the opening of the sections.
The organization of the WG meetings must be planned ahead during the organization of the previous meeting. Once the date, location and funding source for the organization of the meeting are decided, the WG convenor should inform the Secretary General and the President of the NTRS/IOBC

IOBC NTRS- Working Group on Parasitoids of Neotropical Region (PARANEOTROP)

The newly created Working Group on Parasitoids of Neotropical Region is intended to improve the knowledge about parasitoids and their application in biological control in Latin America. Members of this Working Group share interests in all aspects of parasitoid lifestyle, such as taxonomy, diversity, ecology, behaviour and the utilization in biological control program.

IOBC NTRS- Working Group on Conservation Biological Control of the Neotropical Region (WG CBC/NT)

Conservative Biological Control practices are closely related to the habitat management approach and are one of the main tools for the ecological management of pest arthropods. It is known that ecosystem biodiversity can provide many benefits to the agroecosystem such as improved pollination, wildlife conservation, increased productivity, carbon sequestration and pest suppression. However, given the complexity of trophic web interactions in the ecosystem, this practice still faces challenges regarding its applicability in the field.

The CBC Neotropical Working Group aims to evaluate and disseminate research and results related to conservative biological control in the Neotropical region, by offering a discussion forum to enable the exchange and encourage cooperation between scientists working on the topic, in addition to generate greater visibility to the work developed by the group members and their teams.
